Webber Scripture of the Week

3 Ne. 27:29

Therefore, ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he that asketh, receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened.

There's something really special about having the heavens open to us; all we need to ask. It's a common reminder that Heavenly Father is there for us, to help us out.

We like how He explains that if you ask, you will get an answer. He also tells us to knock, which is different, because it's an action--something we have to do. Maybe this could be like reading the scriptures. When we do things that seek Him, he will open our minds and our hearts to receive His knowledge, wisdom, and blessings.

  1. I had an experience with this very scripture this morning. I was bringing the kids down from the cabin to school. (We rented out the house this past week to some returning guests from Taiwan) Both the front doors ended up with the latches to close the doors flipped up somehow. I couldn't shut the front doors of the car. I tried prying the latch down with my keys but couldn't get it to come down. The doors wouldn't shut! I felt pretty frantic because the kids were going to be late for school and two of them were performing in the assembly this morning and needed to be on time. I knelt down in the snow next to the door and said a prayer, (no one was around) but still couldn't figure out the doors. So I just started driving down the canyon road holding the door shut with our hands. I really could not think of what to do and was pretty upset. I kept having a feeling that I needed to stay calm and think through it rationally. By the time I got to the bottom of the canyon I had a thought in my head that I needed to pull on the door handle while pushing on the latch. I pulled over on the road and tried it and it worked. I feel like heavenly father really helped my mind to be clear to receive an answer to my pleading, and we were able to safely get on freeway to drive to school.

  2. I really like the insight that knocking takes action. I always just thought that asking and knocking were about the same thing. Thanks for the insight!

  3. I love the idea of knocking as well. I suppose it takes both trusting the Lord enough to ask Him and then doing all we can so He can bless us. Thanks for the beautiful scripture, Webbers, and for the great comments, Marilee & Andrea. I learn a lot from all of you!
